Preparing for your child's stay

We want you to be comfortable at our facility. Learn about the many amenities and resources we offer to help put your family at ease during your stay.

Accommodations we offer

Our medical staff works to make your time in our 10-bed unit as pleasant as possible.

The child-friendly rooms in our hospital are private and give your family the space needed to remain at your loved one's bedside. Each room includes a DVD player and over 200 movies to choose from. If your child is hospitalized, they can find entertainment outside their private room in our accessible playroom.

We provide a place for one parent to stay overnight, and if you choose to do so, we ask that you bring toiletries, clothes and other essentials.

Child life specialist

While your child is under our care, we pair them with a dedicated child life specialist who focuses on their psychological and social health, while helping you navigate the hospital experience. Our specialist works with you and your support system, as well as everyone on your child's care team, including doctors, nurses and surgeons.

Your child life specialist can help:

  • Explain treatments and care in a kid-friendly manner that helps put your child at ease
  • Implement diversion techniques when drawing blood or starting intravenous (IV) administrations
  • Provide support for your hospitalized child's siblings
  • Use play therapy to ease your child's fears about hospitalization and treatment

Ronald McDonald Family Room

The Ronald McDonald Family Room provides a place for your family to relax, eat and shower when your child is in our care. It has four sleep rooms, bathrooms with showers, laundry facilities, a kitchen, dining room and living room, which you are able to use free of charge. If you have any questions about accommodations, please call (208) 227-2898.

Tour prior to scheduled surgery

Our child life specialist can take your family on a tour before surgery to help familiarize your child with the environment and medical equipment. This tour can help ease your child's fears and clear up any misconceptions they may have about the procedure. We use developmentally appropriate education and therapeutic play during your tour, so your little one can understand and participate in their care.

If you are interested in scheduling a free tour, please call our child life specialist at (208) 529-7288.

Helping your child be comfortable

We know the thought of staying in a hospital may cause your child to feel anxious, which is why we encourage you to talk to them before their visit. Explaining the reasons for their hospitalization in terms they can understand can help ease some of your child's initial fears. To help them feel more comfortable and stay connected to their home and family, we encourage your child to bring some items with them, including:

  • Bathrobe to wear over their hospital pajamas
  • Books or activities to help pass the time
  • Favorite stuffed animal or blanket
  • Slippers
