Volunteers

You can play a role in helping us offer caring support at our hospital. We welcome you to join our team.

Volunteer with us

EIRMC is committed to the care and improvement of human life. We believe that volunteers are a vital part of meeting this commitment. We provide roles that are interesting, purposeful and satisfying to the volunteer, while also helping patients and visitors.

Please apply today or contact our Volunteer Manager if you have additional questions at (208) 529-6201.

We ask each volunteer to commit to 100 hours per year which makes it easy to fit volunteer work into a busy schedule.

Apply to be a volunteer

Adult Volunteers

Adult volunteers drive the shuttle, work the front desk, escort patients throughout the hospital, help in the ER, run a book cart, comfort pediatric patients, and even cuddle NICU babies! We also have non-denominational chaplains who provide spiritual support and trained pet therapy volunteers who bring a cat or dog to brighten our patient’s days.

Junior Volunteers

Youth can begin volunteering at 14 years old. They do many of the same positions that adult volunteers have, except for the roles that are restricted to those 18 or older (driving the shuttle, and helping in the NICU and ER). We have shifts available for after school and on weekends that work with busy teen schedules.

Note: Because of the 100-hour commitment, we do not recommend that volunteering at EIRMC be done as a senior project.

Can't commit to 100 hours but still want to help?

There are many ways you can improve the lives of others. The EIRMC Auxiliary is a non-profit organization that assists patients in many ways. You can join this group and do a lot of good. They also take contributions, both monetary and material.

Volunteer roles

Emergency Room

Volunteers in the ER assist staff by ensuring that patients and visitors are made comfortable during their stay. Tasks include providing blankets, snacks and drinks, magazines, ice packs and pillows. Volunteers may also help by stocking supplies, and greeting patients on arrival.

ICU/Surgical Waiting Room

Waiting room volunteers serve as liaisons between patient families and the hospital staff as well as for ensuring the comfort of visitors. Their positive outlook on life helps relieve the stress that families often experience during times of uncertainty.

Information Desk

The first faces most visitors see when entering EIRMC are those of our information desk volunteers. The duties of information desk volunteers include answering phones, escorting patients and visitors, assisting with admissions, maintaining the lobby and providing visitors with patient room numbers.

Patient Ambassadors

Patient Ambassadors assist patients and their families by providing directions, answering call lights, supplying warm blankets and reading materials, and escorting patients and their families around the hospital. Their dedication and commitment helps brighten everyone’s day.

Chaplain

Chaplains are ordained members of the clergy who are responsible for providing prayer and comfort to patients of many faiths. They serve as liaisons between patients and their churches and assist families in dealing with issues of grief and loss.

  • Chaplains must be pastors, priests or other members of the clergy.

Pet Partners

Pet partners work closely with nursing and therapy staff to help speed the recovery of patients dealing with major changes such as adapting to long term injuries or limited mobility resulting from a stroke.

  • Handler and pet must be certified through Intermountain Therapy Animals.

To discover more please visit Therapy Animals' Volunteer page.

Shuttle Drivers

Shuttle drivers make the trip from the parking lot to the front door a comfortable one come rain or shine. All shuttle driver applicants must:

  • Possess a current, valid driver’s license.
