Idaho Falls, ID —  Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center and five sister hospitals in HCA Healthcare’s Mountain Division earned an “A” Hospital Safety Grade for patient safety from The Leapfrog Group, a national distinction which celebrates achievements in protecting patients from preventable medical errors, accidents, injuries and infections.

EIRMC was recognized for its commitment to patient safety, according to the independent national organization. The Leapfrog Group assigned an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” Safety Grade to over 3,000 U.S. hospitals, based on how well they protect patient safety.  The Leapfrog Group uses more than 30 national patient safety measures from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Leapfrog Hospital Survey to make their assessment.

“We recognize the importance of measuring quality and safety in patient care. Our highly skilled caregivers provide patients with exceptional care each day,” said Dr. Patty Howell, chief medical officer for EIRMC. “We continue to enhance patient safety by elevating the voice of our nurses, physicians and other care team members. We regularly measure and report hundreds of quality and patient safety data points, and we’ve been recognized for our excellence both within HCA Healthcare and by external organizations like The Leapfrog Group.”

The Hospital Safety Grade program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring. The Leapfrog Group was founded in 2000.

The Mountain Division is an award-winning network with 11 hospitals and roughly 100 total sites of care in Utah, Idaho and Alaska. It serves over 1.5 million annual patient interactions and is part of HCA Healthcare, a leading national healthcare provider.
